We found the room descriptions on travelocity very misleading once we arrived at our hotel. Our partial ocean deluxe room ended up being on the side facing the mountain and overlooking the parking lot. When asked where the ocean view was, we were directed to hang over our balcony and look between the hotel buildings behind us! So down we went to change rooms...when asked how much we paid, our hotel clerk gasped and said, "I can put you in a much nicer room for that price" and he proceeded to put us in an ocean front room with a fabulous view at no extra cost. The location of this hotel is the best thing about it...next to Whalers Village for easy dining at Hula Hut and Leilanis and fabulous shopping, lovely sandy beach (the Hyatt has no beach) ; however, the interior of the rooms/hallways are outdated and look as if they are renovating one thing at a time, ie. new granite counters, but still has the old wallpaper in the room. There were cobwebs in the hallway lights and generally dirty looking furniture. The exterior/lobby/pool area were very nice. You do have to get up at 7 am to put a towel on a beach chair or you will not have one for the day and be sure to rent your beach umbrella or cabana several days ahead as they book up quickly.

Tips: bring your own floaties since the pool has an air hose to inflate them. Kids enjoyed water slides, waterfalls, exploring hidden places in pools. Bring swim goggles and you can see fish in the ocean waters right off the hotel property. Otherwise, Black Rock is a short walk away and has some of the best snorkeling on the island. Resort is right next to Whalers Village shopping and dining area. Can join Westin's SPG and pay $* per day for kids pass that allows your kid to eat and drink on site. My kids enjoyed the breakfast buffet at Ono's, hotdogs and shaved ice at Seadogs, and the chicken tenders from Ono's poolside service . A good deal but means you end up staying at the resort for all your meals (nice gotcha on their part). However, I enjoyed dining at Ono's and Tropica, but we were only there for 3 nights. My kids enjoyed feeding the koi and swans. A planned activity every morning. Overall, would recommend this resort when traveling with children. They also have a kids program but we did not participate due to the cost. $* per day for my two boys seemed a little steep. I do wish these resorts would offer some 1/2 day programs for kids to give us parents a little break at no or a more reasonable cost. That sure would of increased our bar tab! Also would recommend the Cirque Polynesia show at the Hyatt right down the street. My kids stayed alert and interested during the entire performance and their tickets were free.

This was our first time in Maui! The Westin is a first class resort! Food is fabulous at all the dining areas and the customer services is superb! The grounds are flowing with water falls and there are plenty of activities along the board wall. Everything you need is right on this strip! Was a very nice relaxing vacation. Went to Hula Grills several times! Good music drinks and food! Shopping at Whalers village was great and only steps from the hotel. We want to go back at Christmas time!

The hotel is situated in a very convenient part of Kaanapali Beach. Loved the fact that it's right on the boardwalk of Kaanapali Beach. Whalers Village is right next door for some light shopping and Lahaina town is just a quick 5 minute drive. BlackRock is a little further down on the boardwalk. Very convenient! We were on our honeymoon and advised the hotel before hand. Although the hotel acknowledged prior to our arrival, they offered no room upgrade when we checked in or any care package. Very disappointed! I guess being a SPG member got no brownie points either! Overall, the hotel experience was not as luxurious as we had hoped. The room decor was a little dated. The bathroom was very basic. The front desk staff could have been friendlier. Didn't feel the warmth there at all. For all you spa-goers there....I wouldn't waste your $ on the so called lomi lomi massage at their spa. All hype! Probably wouldn't stay here again. Would rather pay a few extra bucks to stay at a higher star establishment.

Our stay was ok, but not the greatest. The room we stayed in was nothing special, even old looking. There was a cracked tile and a hole in the bathroom floor. You could hear maintainence vacuuming out the pool at 2 am one night. The breakfast buffet was very over priced, at $*per person, but the food was good. One of the waterslides was closed most of the time that we were there with no explanation why. The front desk was very friendly. I really didn't need the concierge trying to get me to sit through a time share presentation while we were there. The parking lot was very small and even though there was "free" self-parking for $* per day, the lot filled up fast and you were forced to use valet. They said it was free but you felt obligated to tip. I thought we would be staying in a newer facility with the price paid. Housekeeping staff was very friendly and helpful. The "adult" pool and hot tub had underage people (kids) there with no one to monitor that. I was kind of disappointed and left wanting more. I would probably not stay there again if I had the choice.
